Note: Located in central Palestine, adjacent to the town of Al-Birah and north of Jerusalem, on the crest of the Judean Hills at over 2,800 ft. elevation. It was an ancient settlement; some buildings incorporate masonry from the time of Herod the Great (reigned 37-34 BC); however, no complete structure is older than the Crusades of the 11th century CE. Noted for the important nearby ancient site, Tel Mizpe. |
