Note: This is a federally-recognized reservation stewarded by the Blackfeet Nation. The reservation is one of the largest in the United States, spanning 1.5 million acres of trust land across Glacier and Pondera Counties in northwest Montana. The federal boundaries of the reservation were origianally established by the 1851 Treaty of Fort Laramie; the boundaries were further solidified in 1888 when Congress ratified the Sweetgrass Hills Treaty. The reservation's current size, representing a significant depletion of the original Blackfeet territoriy, was recognized through a treaty on September 26, 1985.
