Note: The western German town of Siegburg is situated on the Sieg river, some 14 miles southeast of Cologne. It was the site of an abbey founded by saint Anno in 1064, It received its charter in 1182. Its principal historic building is a 12th-century church. The shrine of St. Agnes there has a reliquary said to be by the noted 12th-century goldsmith and enamellist Nicholas of Verdun. Famed German composer Engelbert Humperdinck was born here in 1854. Local industry produces synthetic fibers. The population estimate for 2004 was 38,200.
