Note: Devices of the 18th century for viewing "perspective view prints," which are pseudo-stereoscopic images. These table-top viewers consist of a wooden stand supporting a hinged mirror and lens, used to view a flat image placed on the table next to the stand. A perspective effect is created through a combination of image design and lens and mirror properties. Surviving examples are elegant and highly collectible pieces of mahogany furniture, designed for the drawing rooms of affluent homes.

| Dutch ..... Instrumenten uit de 18de eeuw waarmee pseudostereoscopische beelden kunnen worden bekeken die soms 'vues d'optique' worden genoemd. Deze tafelkijkers bestaan uit een houten standaard ter ondersteuning van een scharnierende spiegel en lens, gebruikt om een plat op de tafel naast de standaard gelegde afbeelding te bekijken. Er wordt een perspectiefeffect geschapen door een combinatie van het beeldontwerp en de eigenschappen van spiegel en lens. Bewaard gebleven voorbeelden zijn elegante en hoogst gewilde mahoniehouten meubelstukken, bestemd voor de zitkamers van welgestelde families. |
