Note: A colorless hydrocarbon gas, the simplest of the alkynes, also called ethyne. Acetylene burns much more brightly than other gases and was used for stage lighting before electric lights were introduced. It burns with an intensely hot flame and is widely used as a fuel in oxyacetelene welding, soldering, and cutting of metals.

| Dutch ..... Een kleurloos koolwaterstofgas; de simpelste vorm van alkyn, ook wel ethyn genoemd. Acetyleen brandt veel helderder dan andere gassen en werd voor de komst van elektrische lampen dan ook gebruikt voor podiumverlichting. Het gas brandt met een extreem hete vlam en wordt nog steeds veel gebruikt als brandstof bij het lassen, solderen en snijden van metalen. |
