Note: Refers to the ancient Roman emperors from the time of Augustus Caesar (born 63 BCE) to the fall of Constantinople. The term is taken from the surname of the Roman dictator Caius Julius Caesar, and was transferred as a title to succeeding emperors. From the time of Hadrian (died 138 CE) it was also used as a title of the heir-presumptive of the emperor.

| Dutch ..... Verwijst naar de oude Romeinse keizers uit de tijd van Augustus Caesar (geboren in 63 v. Chr.) tot aan de val van Konstantinopel. De term is ontleend aan de achternaam van de Romeinse dictator Caius Julius Caesar, en ging als titel over op de keizers die na hem kwamen. Sinds de tijd van Hadrianus (overleden in 138 n. Chr.) werd deze benaming ook gebruikt als titel voor de aangewezen erfopvolger van de keizer. |
