Note: The branch of dynamics concerned with the action of forces in producing equilibrium or relative rest, and with the forces acting on systems and structures in equilibrium. Formerly, statics referred to weight and its mechanical effects, and with the conditions of equilibrium resulting from the distribution of weight; it was considered in opposition to dynamics, as dynamics was previously defined.
