Note: Most commonly keyless, valveless aerophones with a wide conical bore, usually though not always coiled, and a cup mouthpiece, now used chiefly for military and parade use. Early in the 19th century, the addition of keys and valves lent a full chromatic scale: for these instruments use "keyed bugles." |

Dutch ..... Natuurlijke aërofonen zonder ventielen of kleppen met een brede conische boring, meestal, maar niet altijd, spiraalvormig en met een cupmondstuk; vooral gebruikt in het leger en in optochten. |
German ..... Meist klappenloses, ventilloses Aerofon mit einer weiten konischen Röhre, üblicherweise (jedoch nicht immer) gewunden, mit Kesselmundstück; jetzt hauptsächlich für militärische Zwecke und Paraden verwendet.
