Note: A type of pottery midway between earthenware and porcelain being made of clay and a fusible stone. It is fired to a point where partial vitrification renders it impervious to liquids, but, unlike porcelain, it is very seldom more than faintly translucent. The vitrification makes it unnecessary to add a glaze, but for reasons of utility and appearance decorative glazes are sometimes used, such as salt glaze and lead glaze.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 一種介於土器及瓷器之間的陶器，以黏土與易熔的石頭製成。其作法為將坯體燒結成局部玻化、使液體無法滲透，但是與瓷器相異之處，是其極少呈半透明狀。玻化使其無需上釉，不過基於實用與外觀因素，有時會施以裝飾釉，如鹽釉和鉛釉。 |
| Dutch ..... Een soort pottenbakkersgoed dat tussen aardewerk en porselein in zit doordat het is gemaakt van klei en een smeltbaar gesteente. De potten worden zolang gebakken tot er gedeeltelijke verglazing optreedt waardoor het materiaal waterdicht wordt. In tegenstelling tot porselein is het materiaal slechts zelden meer dan lichtelijk doorschijnend. Door de verglazing hoeft er geen glazuur te worden gebruikt, maar voor het gebruiksgemak en het uiterlijk worden toch soms sierglazuren aangebracht, zoals zout- of loodglazuur. |
| Spanish ..... Un tipo de cerámica a mitad de camino entre loza y porcelana que se hace de arcilla y una piedra fundible. Es quemada a un punto donde la vitrificación parcial la vuelve impenetrable a líquidos, pero, a diferencia de la porcelana, es muy raramente un poco más translúcida. La vitrificación hace innecesario agregar un barniz, pero por razones de utilidad y apariencia se usan a veces barnices decorativos, como barniz de sal y barniz de plomo. |
