Note: Type of chordophone with strings and keys, superficially resembling a harpsichord, but functioning like a hurdy-gurdy. The strings are bowed, creating sustained tones, by means of a series of parchment-covered metal wheels that are brought in contact with the strings by pressing the keys. The wheels were powered either by a footpedal or a crank. |

Dutch ..... Slagsnaarinstrument met klavier, in de vorm van een klavecimbel. De snaren worden aan het trillen gebracht door ondergelegen frictiewieltjes die worden rondgedraaid met een slinger aan de andere kant van het klavier. Ontstaan in de 17de eeuw. |
