Note: Beehives made of baskets placed open-end-down, in use for over 2,000 years in beekeeping. Early examples were made of wicker plastered with mud and dung; later examples were made of straw or coils of grass. Typically there is a single entrance at the bottom of the bee skep. There is no internal structure provided for the bees, as the colony produces its own honeycomb attached to the inside of the bee skep.

| Dutch ..... Bijenkorven gemaakt van manden die met de opening naar beneden zijn geplaatst, en die al meer dan 2000 jaar in gebruik zijn in de bijenhouderij. Vroege exemplaren waren van wilgentenen die waren dichtgeplakt met modder en mest. Later werden ze van stro of gevlochten gras gemaakt. Vaak is er één ingang bij de onderkant van de korf. Binnenin zijn geen voorzieningen voor de bijen aangebracht, omdat de kolonie haar eigen honingraat bouwt, vastgemaakt tegen de binnenkant van de bijenkorf. |
