Note: A Dutch variation of Art Nouveau, meaning "new art"; evident 1892/1910, mainly in and around The Hague. It is seen in various substyles, called constructive, decorative, and constructive-decorative. A distinctive characteristic of Nieuwe Kunst is the focus on rationalism, by which ornament is subordinate to form and construction.
