Note: Refers to the northern European Mesolithic period and culture that existed from around 12,000 to around 10,000 Before Present. The culture probably developed from Magdalenians who left south-western Europe to follow reindeer during a period of retreating Würm glatiation, and it is characterized by a variety of tools, including bone awls, skinners, scrapers, needles, elastic strips made by soaking reindeer antlers, and some simple decoration such as V-patterns and strokes. The culture occupied an area from southern Holstein to Hannover, with winters probably spent south of the Elbe river. Some scholars believe it may have had ties to eastern Europe. It was succeeded by the Ahrensburgian culture.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 指稱存在於考古紀元元年前一萬兩千年至一萬年間，於北歐發展的中石器時期與文化。此種文化可能是由馬格達連人所發展出來的，他們在沃爾姆冰河作用（Würm glatiation）消退時期，為了跟隨馴鹿而離開西南歐，而此時期的特徵為各式各樣的工具，包含了由骨頭所製成的鑽子、剝皮器、刮削器、針器、以浸泡過的馴鹿角所製成的彈性條帶，以及一些簡單的裝飾，例如V字型圖案與短線條。此種文化的範圍自荷蘭北方的荷斯坦（Holstein） 南部拓展至德國的漢諾威（Hannover），在冬季時可能延伸到易北河（Elbe river）以南的地區。部分學者相信此時期可能與東歐有所關連。此文化之後為阿倫斯堡文化。 |
| Dutch ..... Verwijst naar de Noord-Europese mesolithische periode en cultuur van circa 10.000 tot circa 8000 v. Chr. De cultuur ontstond waarschijnlijk onder invloed van Magdaléniens die vanuit het zuidwesten van Europa de rendieren volgden toen de Würm-ijstijd ten einde liep. De Hamburgcultuur wordt gekenmerkt door uiteenlopende werktuigen, zoals van botten vervaardigde priemen, vilders, schrapers, naalden, elastische stroken gemaakt van natte rendiergeweien en een aantal eenvoudige versieringen zoals V-patronen en banen. De cultuur besloeg een geografisch gebied van Holstein tot Hannover, waarbij de winters waarschijnlijk ten zuiden van de rivier de Elbe werden doorgebracht. Een aantal onderzoekers gelooft dat de cultuur wellicht banden had met Oost-Europa. De cultuur werd gevolgd door de Ahrensburgcultuur. |
