Note: Trademarked variety of fiberboards made from bagasse (sugar cane waste) or mineral fibers. Examples include insulating tiles and boards. Celotex products were treated to resist fungi, termites, and water. The boards had a rough, weblike surface that accepted paint well, but they became brittle and friable with age. Low-density Celotex boards were used in the 1930s for heat and sound insulation in such buildings as the White House, Washington D.C. and Rockefeller Center in New York City. |

Dutch ..... Handelsmerknaam voor vezelplaten gemaakt van bagasse (suikerrietafval) of minerale vezels. Ze werden bijvoorbeeld gebruikt voor isolerende tegels of platen. Celotex-producten werden zo behandeld dat ze resistent waren tegen schimmels, termieten en water. De platen hadden een ruw, webachtig oppervlak waarop goed geschilderd kon worden, maar ze werden in de loop der jaren bros en brokkelig. Celotex-platen van lage dichtheid werden in de jaren 30 van de 20ste eeuw gebruikt voor warmte- en geluidsisolatie in gebouwen als het Witte Huis in Washington en het Rockefeller Center in New York.
