Parafilm M (TM) (brand name materials, Brand Names (hierarchy name))
Note: Trademarked name for a moldable, self-sealing plastic film composed of polyolefins and paraffin wax which is permeable to oxygen and carbon dioxide and resistant to many common reagents. It is used as a moisture barrier film for short-term storage. In conservation it has been used to repair splits and as temporary backing for ivory miniatures; and tested as an adhesive for strip lining of twentieth century paintings.
Dutch ..... Merknaam voor een kneedbaar, zelfsluitend plastic vlies, bestaand uit polyolefinen en paraffine, dat zuurstof en koolstofdioxide doorlaat maar resistent is tegen verschillende veelvoorkomende reagentia. Dit vlies wordt gebruikt als vochtbarrière voor kortetermijnopslag, en in de conserveringswetenschap voor het repareren van scheuren en als tijdelijke achtergrond voor ivoren miniaturen. Tevens wordt het getest als kleefmiddel voor de stripvoering van twintigste-eeuwse schilderijen.
