Note: Handicraft characterized by simple meshes of thread or cord joined by knots. It is of ancient origin and known in most cultures of the world. When produced under tension, it creates a stable fabric. In making the net, the thread is wound on an elongated shuttle or large needle; a mesh stick or gauge is used to maintain a uniform size of mesh. As the thread is looped round the gauge it is passed through a secondary loop to form a fisherman's knot or other non-slipping knot. The net can vary greatly in weight, shape, or size. It is used to make utilitarian objects, such as fishing nets, snares, and apparel, and as a foundation upon which to apply ornamentation, such as in the creation of lace or other textiles.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 利用編結將絲線或繩線編織成簡單網眼布的手工藝，自古即有並廣泛見於世界多數文化中。若拉緊後編織，則會製造出質地穩固的布料。若要製作網子，則以極瘦長的梭子或粗針編織絲線；同時使用織網棒或隔距板維持網眼的大小。當絲線繞過隔距板形成線圈時，也通過第二個線圈，而形成一個漁人結或其他不會滑動的結。織成的網可能重量、形狀與尺寸各異。此織法多用於製作實用物件，諸如漁網、誘捕網以及服裝，亦或是在蕾絲或其他織品等物的製作過程中，作為基底以利加上裝飾。 |
| Dutch ..... Handwerk dat wordt gekenmerkt door eenvoudige netten van draad of koord die met elkaar worden verbonden met behulp van knopen. Deze techniek is zeer oud en is bekend in de meeste culturen. Wanneer handwerk wordt geproduceerd onder spanning, ontstaat een stevig textiel. Bij het maken van het net wordt het draad op een verlengde schietspoel of grote naald gewonden; er wordt gebruik gemaakt van een netstok of #gauge om een uniforme afmeting van het net te handhaven. Als de draad rond #de gauge wordt gewikkeld, wordt de draad door een tweede lus geleid om een vissersknoop of andere, niet-verschuivende knoop te vormen. Het net kan zeer veel variatie vertonen in gewicht, vorm of afmeting. Het wordt gebruikt voor het maken van gebruiksvoorwerpen, zoals visnetten, vallen en kleding, en als basis voor het aanbrengen van versiering, zoals bij het vervaardigen van kant of ander textiel. |

Cuando está producido bajo tensión, crea una tela estable. Se utiliza para hacer objetos utilitarios, tales como redes de pesca, trampas, ropa, y como base sobre la cual se pueden aplicar ornamentación, por ejemplo en la creación de otros textiles. |
