Note: Refers to the integration of engineering design and the manufacture of objects into a system under the direct control of digital computers. It combines the use of computers in industrial-design work, called "computer-aided design" or "CAD," with the use of computers in manufacturing operations, known as "computer-aided manufacturing" or "CAM." This integrated process is commonly called CAD/CAM. It is typically characterized by the facility to allow drawings developed and revised during the design process to be converted directly into instructions for the production machines that will manufacture the desired object.

| Dutch ..... Verwijst naar de integratie van het technische ontwerp en de fabricage van objecten tot een systeem dat rechtstreeks wordt bestuurd door digitale computers. Computer-aided engineering (CAE) combineert het gebruik van computers voor industriële ontwerptoepassingen, de zogeheten 'computer-aided design' of 'CAD', met computergestuurde fabricageprocessen, de zogeheten 'computer-aided manufacturing' of 'CAM'. Dit geïntegreerde proces wordt gewoonlijk aangeduid als CAD/CAM. Kenmerkend is de mogelijkheid om ontwerptekeningen die tijdens het ontwerpproces zijn ontwikkeld en gewijzigd, rechtstreeks om te zetten in instructies voor de productiemachines die het gewenste object moeten maken. |
