Note: Structures, usually in cemeteries, designed to temporarily store the bodies of the deceased prior to interment in a permanent grave or tomb. They may include chambers dug into hillsides or free standing structures. Examples are receiving vaults used during winter months in climates where the ground may be frozen. For rooms or structures used for the hygienic temporary storage of corpses, not designed for visitation by mourners, prefer "morgues."

| Dutch ..... Constructies, meestal op begraafplaatsen, om tijdelijk de lichamen van de overledenen te bewaren voordat ze in een permanent graf of graftombe ter aarde worden besteld. Het kan gaan om ruimten die in heuvels zijn uitgegraven of om vrijstaande constructies. Ze worden gebruikt wanneer in de wintermaanden de grond bevroren is. Gebruik 'lijkenhuizen' voor kamers of bouwconstructies voor tijdelijke opslag van lijken om hygiënische redenen. |
