Note: Species of small tree or large shrub native to middle and southern Europe, western and central Asia, and northwestern Africa. It produces a small thin-fleshed cherry-like drupe, the kernel of which is used in perfumery and as a flavoring that tastes like bitter almond. It is also used in dye-making. The hard wood is used for small objects. The fruits are strung as beads in Africa and Asia. The tree is also used as dwarf stock for grafting branches of cultivated edible cherries.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 小型喬木或大型灌木的物種，原生於歐洲的中部與南部、亞洲的西部與中部、以及非洲西北部。可結出小型且果肉薄、有如櫻桃的核果，果仁用於製造香料，可當調味料，嘗起來像苦杏仁，亦使用於染料製造。其硬質木材用於製造小型物品。在非洲及亞洲，會將果實紮成珠串。此樹種也被當成矮小樹幹、用以承接所培育之食用櫻桃的嫁接分枝。 |
| Dutch ..... Kleine boom of grote struik die inheems is in Midden- en Zuid-Europa, West- en Centraal-Azië en Noordwest-Afrika. De boom produceert een kleine steenvrucht die lijkt op een kers met een dunne laag vruchtvlees. De pit gebruikt men voor het maken van parfums, kleurstoffen en smaakstoffen die doen denken aan bittere amandel. Het harde hout van de boom wordt gebruikt voor het maken van kleine objecten. In Afrika en Azië maakt men kralen van de vruchten. De boom gebruikt men ook als dwergonderstam waarop men takken van gekweekte kersenbomen ent die eetbare vruchten produceren. |
