Note: Species of small tree or large shrub that probably originated in the region around the Caucasus and the Caspian Sea. According to the earliest writings in which the plum is mentioned, the species is at least 2,000 years old. It has a fruit that is a fleshy drupe of variable size, usually having purple, red, or yellow skin with a dull powdery bloom when ripe, a sweet pulp, and a flattish pointed stone.

| Dutch ..... Kleine boom of grote heester die waarschijnlijk oorspronkelijk in het gebied rond de Kaukasus en de Kaspische Zee voorkwam. Volgens de vroegste geschriften waarin de pruim wordt vermeld is deze soort zeker 2000 jaar oud. De vrucht is een vleesachtige steenvrucht van uiteenlopend formaat, doorgaans met een paarse, rode of gele schil die een doffe, poederachtige waas heeft als hij rijp is. Het vruchtvlees is zoet en de pit is vrij plat en puntig. |
