| Dutch ..... Een gele verfstof uit verschillende bronnen, meestal de stengels en wortels van de gewone berberis (Berberis vulgaris). Berberis bevat de kleurstoffen berberine (berberinebisulfaat, berberinesulfaat, berberinehydrochloride), berbamine en oxyacanthine, met daarnaast enkele oplosbare looizuren. De gele kleur is substantief op wol, leer en zijde. De verfstof werd ook gebruikt als een geel karmijnpigment voor kleurenafdrukken. Behalve de berberis zijn andere bronnen van berberine de plant van de Canadese geelwortel (Hydrastis canadensis) en de schors van de kurkboom (Phellodendron amurense). |
