Note: Breed of dog thought to have originated in Germany, but so poular in France it is the national dog of that country. The poodle was developed as a water retriever, and is clipped with its distinctive coat to increase its efficiency in the water. The poodle has been bred in three size varieties: standard, miniature, and toy.

| Dutch ..... Hondensoort die waarschijnlijk afkomstig is uit Duitsland, maar in Frankrijk zo populair is geworden dat het tegenwoordig de nationale hond van dat land is. De poedel is gefokt als jachthond die geschoten jachtdieren uit het water moest halen. De kenmerkende manier van knippen van de haren was bedoeld om het dier makkelijker in het water te laten bewegen. Er zijn drie variëteiten: standaardpoedel, dwergpoedel en toypoedel. |
