Note: Important fruit-producing tree in China and Japan; it is the most widely cultivated species of the Diospyros genus and among the oldest plants in cultivation, known for its use in China for more than 2000 years. The fruit is sweet, slightly tangy, and soft to fibrous in texture. It is known in numerous cultivars throughout eastern Asia, California, southern Europe, and Brazil.

| Dutch ..... Belangrijke fruitproducerende boom die inheems is in China en Japan. Het is de meest gekweekte soort uit het genus Diospyros en een van de eerste planten die door de mens werden verbouwd. In China gebruikt men de boom al meer dan 2000 jaar. De zachte en vezelige vrucht heeft een zoete, enigszins scherpe smaak. Er zijn een groot aantal cultivars bekend. Men vindt ze in het oosten van Azië, in Californië, Zuid-Europa en Brazilië. |
