Note: Of people and corporate bodies, the state of being professionally active. A common example is in reference to dates associated with people or corporate bodies, where the specific dates, and sometimes loci, of birth and death are unknown; the term is commonly so-used in the discipline of art history for estimated life dates based on the oeuvre or other documentation of the artist. It may refer to the time of the artist's apprenticeship through old age, regardless of whether this was his or her most prolific period. For people other than artists and architects, prefer "flourished," which has the connotation of demarking that time when the person has achieved full development or success. However, usage overlaps.

Wordt vaak gebruikt met betrekking tot data voor mensen of instanties wanneer de precieze data en soms geboorteplaatsen onbekend zijn; de term wordt op die manier algemeen gebruikt in de kunstgeschiedenis voor geschatte levensdata van een kunstenaar op basis van het oeuvre of andere documentatie. Het kan verwijzen naar artistieke activiteit tot op hogere leeftijd, ongeacht of dit de vruchtbaarste periode van de kunstenaar was. Gebruik 'in bloeitijd' voor anderen dan kunstenaars en architecten, welke term de connotatie heeft om de periode aan te geven waarin de persoon volledig tot ontwikkeling is gekomen of succes heeft gehad. Het gebruik overlapt echter. |
