Note: Cryptogamous (using sexual reproduction but lacking stamens or pistils) with hollow, jointed stems and whorls of slender branches at the joints. Today comprises one genus and around 30 species, but they were abundant in earlier periods; some Paleozoic sphenophytes grew up to 100 feet in height.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 隱花植物（有性繁殖但缺乏雄蕊或雌蕊），莖幹中空有節，細枝輪生於關節處。現今包含一個屬，約有30種，但在早期物種豐富；某些古生代的楔葉門植物可以長到100呎高。 |
| Dutch ..... Cryptogame planten (die gebruik maken van seksuele reproductie, maar geen meeldraden en stampers hebben) met holle stengels. De stengels hebben knopen waaruit kransen van slanke takjes groeien. Tegenwoordig omvat deze stam één genus en ongeveer 30 soorten, maar in het verleden waren ze talrijk. Sommige Paleozoïsche soorten werden wel 30 meter hoog. |
