Note: Diverse order containing 33 families, 692 genera, and around 11,000 species of trees, shrubs, lianas, mangroves, stem or leaf succulents, annuals, and even insectivores. Nearly half of the families are very small, with less than a dozen species each. Many members of the order are ecologically specialized to tolerate salty or desertlike environments. Some have distinctive physiological adaptations to cope with these habitats, including carnivorous digestion.

Dutch ..... Gevarieerde orde van 33 families, 692 genera en ongeveer 11.000 soorten bomen, struiken, lianen, mangroven, stam- en bladsucculenten, eenjarige planten en zelfs vleesetende planten. Bijna de helft van de families zijn zeer klein, met elk minder dan een tiental soorten. Veel leden van deze orde zijn aangepast aan zoute en woestijnachtige omgevingen. Ze hebben opvallende fysiologische eigenschappen die hen in staat stellen in dergelijke omgevingen te overleven, waaronder de mogelijkheid om insecten te vangen en te verteren.
