Note: Species of herbaceous plant native to the Mediterranean area, but cultivated for 2,000 years. It is widely cultivated for its bright pink-purple, fringe-petaled flowers, which often have a spicy fragrance. Cultivars occur in a variety of pink colors, yellow, green, and white.

Dutch ..... Kruidachtige plant die inheems is in het Middellandse Zeegebied en al 2000 jaar wordt gehouden. De plant wordt op grote schaal gekweekt vanwege zijn heldere roze-paarse en vaak geurige bloemen met rafelige bloemblaadjes. Er zijn diverse cultivars met verschillende kleuren: roze, geel, groen en wit.
