Note: Species of very tall fan palm native to Southeast Asia and the Philippines. It is cultivated in southeast Asia north to southern China. It is one of the largest palms in the world with specimens reaching 25 m in height and stems up to 1.3 m in diameter. It may live as long as 75 years before flowering, then fruiting just one time and dying. It has large palmate leaves measuring up to 5 m across, used for making fans, umbrellas, and thatching. Strips of leaves have historically been used for manuscripts, inscribed with iron styluses. Young stalks are used for weaving. The sap is tapped to make palm wine.

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Zeer hoge waaierpalm die inheems is in Zuidoost-AziĆ« en op de Filippijnen. De palm wordt gekweekt in het gebied dat zich uitstrekt van Zuidoost-AziĆ« tot Zuid-China. Het is een van de hoogste palmen ter wereld. Sommige exemplaren worden 25 meter hoog en hebben een stam van 1,3 meter dik. Soms zijn de bomen al 75 jaar oud voordat ze voor de eerste keer bloeien en vrucht dragen, waarna ze sterven. De boom heeft grote gelobde bladeren die 5 meter in doorsnee kunnen worden. Men gebruikt ze voor het maken van waaiers en paraplu's en om daken te bedekken. Van de bladeren maakte men vroeger ook manuscripten die met ijzeren graveernaalden werden beschreven. Jonge stengels gebruikt men om mee te weven. Het sap tapt men af om palmwijn te maken.
