Note: Species of evergreen tree having long, tufted foliage and a tall, columnar trunk up to 35 m in height, found along the coastal plain of the southern U.S. from Texas to Virginia and Florida. The species is a principal source of turpentine, kraft paper, paperboard, and book paper made in the United States. The hard, stiff, durable lumber was also used for ships, boxes, flooring, heavy construction, and millwork.

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Groenblijvende boom met lange naalden die in bosjes groeien en een lange zuilvormige stam die 35 meter hoog kan worden. De boom komt voor in de vlakke gebieden aan de zuidkust van de VS, in het gebied dat zich uitstrekt van Texas tot Virginia en Florida. Het is in de VS een belangrijke bron van terpentijn, kraftpapier, karton en boekpapier. Het harde, stijve en slijtvaste hout gebruikte men ook voor schepen, kisten, vloeren, zware constructies, deuren en kozijnen.
