|
Note: Term coined by French critics to describe a genre of film characterized by dark, somber tone and cynical, pessimistic mood. Typically such films portray the dark and gloomy underworld of crime and corruption with the heroes as well as the villains being cynical and disillusioned, trapped by their pasts and insecure or apathetic about the future. The genre is typifed by Hollywood black-and-white motion pictures of the 1940s and early 1950s, though later examples in color exist.

Zulke films laten gewoonlijk de duistere, sombere onderwereld van criminaliteit en corruptie zien, waarin zowel de helden als de schurken cynisch en gedesillusioneerd zijn, gevangen in hun verleden en onzeker of apathisch over de toekomst. Typerende voorbeelden van het genre zijn zwart-witfilms uit Hollywood in de jaren 40 en vroege jaren 50 van de 20ste eeuw, hoewel er ook latere voorbeelden in kleur bestaan. |

Normalmente, esses filmes retratam o submundo sombrio do crime e da corrupção, com os heróis e também os vilões sendo cínicos e desiludidos, presos por seu passado e inseguros ou apáticos quanto ao futuro. O gênero é tipificado pelos filmes em preto e branco de Hollywood dos anos 1940 e início dos anos 1950, embora existam exemplos posteriores em cores. |

Típicamente tales películas que retratan el submundo oscuro y lúgubre del crimen y corrupción con los héroes tanto como los villanos siendo cínicos y desolucionados, atrapados por sus pasados e inseguros o apáticos acerca del futuro. El género es tipificado por la cinematografía en blanco y negro de Hollywood de los años 1940 y 1950 temprano, mas tarde se dará existencia en color. |
