Note: Bluish white, fiery, opalescent, translucent glass that has been made white by the addition of calcium phosphate (bone ash) and opalescent by the addition of fluorides (fluorspar, cryolite, or lepidolite) and/or arsenic. Red tones appear in transmitted light. Opal glass was used for windows, bowls, light shades, table tops, and cosmetic jars. |

Dutch ..... Blauwachtig wit, vurig, opaalachtig, doorschijnend glas dat deels ondoorzichtig is gemaakt met bijvoorbeeld tinoxide. Bij doorgelaten licht zijn er rode tinten zichtbaar. |
Spanish ..... Vidrio translúcido opalescente y flameante de color blanco azulado que ha sido parcialmente opacado con un óxido, como el de estaño. Aparecen tonos rojos al transmitir la luz. |
