Note: Small single-headed frame drums of Near Eastern origin, consisting of a shallow ring, usually of wood, covered on one side with a stretched membrane of parchment, animal skin, or plastic, usually furnished with jingling metal discs or small bells called jingles placed in slots or otherwise attached around the circumference. It is played by shaking, striking with the knuckles, or drawing the fingers across the parchment. The earlier name for this instrument, as mentioned in translations of the Bible, was "timbrel." |

Dutch ..... Lijsttrommen met ondiepe ring, aan één kant bedekt met een trommelvel van perkament, dierenhuid of kunststof, voorzien van rinkelende metalen schijfjes of kleine belletjes, bespeeld met de hand; Nabije-Oosten. |
German ..... Kleine einfellige Rahmentrommel mit Ursprung im Nahen Osten, bestehend aus einem flachen Reif, meist aus Holz, auf einer Seite mit einer gespannten Membran aus Pergament, Tierhaut oder Plastik, gewöhnlich mit klingenden Metallscheiben oder kleinen Glocken, den sogenannten Schellen, besetzt, die in Nuten angebracht oder auf andere Weise am Rahmen befestigt sind. Das Tamburin wird gespielt, indem es geschüttelt oder mit den Fingerknöcheln geschlagen wird oder indem die Finger über das Pergament gezogen werden. Der frühere Name für das Instrument, wie in Bibelübersetzungen erwähnt, war "Timbrel". |
