Note: Refers to the style and period generally evident beginning in the mid-12th century in Italy and elsewhere in western Europe. The period overlaps with the Late Medieval period, and is heralded in Italy by the evolution of the city-state and consequent rise in status and individualism of the artist/craftsman. The style in sculpture and painting differs from earlier styles in a renewed appreciation of the art of Classical Greece and Rome, evident in more three-dimensional, naturalistic figures, and compositions influenced by those of Roman sarcophogi and other ancient art.

| Dutch ..... Verwijst naar de stijl en periode die over het algemeen duidelijk begint in het midden van de 12de eeuw in Italië en elders in West-Europa. De periode overlapt met de laatmiddeleeuwse periode en wordt in Italië ingeluid door het ontstaan van de stadstaten en de daaropvolgende stijging van de status en het individualisme van kunstenaars en handwerkslieden. De stijl in de beeldhouw- en schilderkunst verschilt van vroegere stijlen door de hernieuwde waardering van de kunst van het klassieke Griekenland en Rome. Deze is duidelijk zichtbaar in de meer driedimensionale, naturalistische figuren en composities die zijn beïnvloed door Romeinse sarcofagen en andere antieke kunst. |
| Spanish ..... Se refiere al estilo y período generalmente evidente a mediados del siglo XII en Italia y en otras partes en Europa occidental. El período se superpone con el período Medieval Tardío y es precedido en Italia por la evolución de la ciudad-estado y la consiguiente elevación del estatus e individualismo de los artistas y artesanos. El estilo en escultura y pintura difiere de estilos más tempranos en una apreciación renovada del arte de Grecia y Roma Clásica, evidente en figuras más tridimensionales, naturalistas y composiciones influenciadas por aquéllas de los sarcófagos romanos y de otro arte antiguo. |
