Note: Members of a taxon of reptiles who developed two pairs of temporal arches (holes behind the eye in their skull) around 300 million years ago during the late Carboniferous period. Among diapsids are dinosaurs, crocodians, lizards, snakes, turtles, and birds. Some living diapsids have lost either one hole (lizards), or both holes (snakes), or even have a heavily restructured skull (modern birds), but they are classified as diapsids based on their ancestry. There are at least 14,600 living species of diapsids. |

Chinese (traditional) ..... 在大約三億年前的石炭紀晚期,雙孔亞綱的爬蟲動物特化出兩對顳顬孔,也就是位於眼睛後方頭骨上的孔。雙孔亞綱動物包括恐龍、鱷、蜥蜴、蛇、龜以及鳥。某些現存的雙孔亞綱動物僅剩一顳顬孔,例如蜥蜴,某些則已無顳顬孔,如蛇;某些動物的頭骨構造甚至已大幅改變,像是現代的鳥類,但是仍依據共同的祖先,歸類於雙孔亞綱。雙孔亞綱至少涵蓋了一萬四千六百種現存物種。 |
Dutch ..... Taxon van reptielen die ongeveer 300 miljoen jaar geleden, in het Laat-Carboon, in hun schedel twee paren openingen achter de oogkassen ontwikkelden. Tot de diapsida behoren de dinosauriërs, krokodilachtigen, hagedissen, slangen, schildpadden en vogels. Sommige levende diapsida zijn één opening kwijtgeraakt (hagedissen) of beide openingen (slangen), of hebben een schedel die in hoge mate is veranderd (moderne vogels), maar vanwege hun afstamming worden ze toch als diapsida geclassificeerd. Er zijn ten minste 14.600 levende soorten diapsida. |
