Note: A early 20th-century literary movement created in revolt against romanticism, specifically its optimism and supposed carelessness; the movement called for free verse and precise imagery. It is seen as the successor to French symbolism in the sense that it has an affinity to sculpture as symbolism has an affinity to music. Ezra Pound, inspired by the critical views of T.E. Hulme, devised its poetic ideals in about 1912.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 二十世紀初期的文學運動，反對浪漫主義，特別是其中的樂觀主義和自以為是的漫不經心，主張自由詩韻和精確的想像力。被認為是法國象徵主義的後繼者，雕塑有法國象徵主義的意味，音樂也有這種傾向。一九一二年詩人龐德（Ezra Pound）受休姆（T.E. Hulme）的評論影響，所提出詩的理念。 |
| Dutch ..... Een literaire stroming uit de vroege 20ste eeuw, die ontstond als reactie op het romanticisme, meer bepaald op het optimisme en de vermeende zorgeloosheid van deze stroming. Imagisme propageerde het vrije vers en een nauwkeurige beeldspraak. Het wordt gezien als de opvolger van de Franse symboliek omdat het affiniteit heeft met beeldhouwkunst, zoals symboliek affiniteit heeft met muziek. Geïnspireerd door de kritische beschouwingen van T.E. Hulme stelde Ezra Pound rond 1912 de poëtische uitgangspunten van de stroming op. |
