This well-illustrated artist’s statement, published in the London arts magazine Art and Artists, stands as one of Mieko Shiomi’s most extensive statements to be published in English during the period of her career on which The Scores Project focuses. The text elaborates on the origins of the Spatial Poem series (1965–75) and Shiomi’s understanding of the term intermedia, and it offers reflections on her experience as a woman artist.
