These scores for Watering Place were developed in Robert Dunn’s dance composition course held at the Merce Cunningham Studio. Each of the pages was drawn for a different performer but based on a common pattern of stage movement defined by concentric circles intersected by diagonal lines. The scores show Rainer experimenting with compositional indeterminacy derived from the dancers’ choices as well as unpredictably timed encounters with their fellow performers.
