George Brecht’s Card-Piece for Voice (1959) was performed in Mary Bauermeister’s studio by an ensemble gathered around a grand piano, which served as a provisional playing table. David Tudor can be seen at right, dealing from an ordinary deck of playing cards used to cue performers’ vocalizations.
