Title Letter from Morton Feldman to David Tudor
Maker Morton Feldman (American, 1926–87)
Date 15 June 1953
Type correspondence
Location Getty Research Institute, David Tudor Papers, 980039, box 53, folder 7

Morton Feldman’s emotional intimacy with David Tudor reveals both the closeness of their relationship at the time and the extraordinary power Tudor had over composers in simply performing their works and platforming them for the public. The letter also reveals the mutual sympathy the two had for an Artaudian aesthetic of violence in the postwar period.
