In this year's Villa Summer Institute, you'll learn about life in an ancient Roman home through the lens of the Getty Villa's collection and site!
The program includes gallery investigations, discussions, lectures, and hands-on activities that will help you create meaningful learning experiences for students about the ancient Roman world that you can incorporate into your classroom curriculum and use during a visit to the Museum.
This summer's schedule:
K6th grade teachers: July 7, 8, and 9, 2010. 612 grade teachers: July 10, 11, and 12, 2010.
The program is free. Applications are due May 14, 2010.

 |
This program will introduce secondary-level teachers of literature, social sciences, and other humanities subjects to the history of photojournalism. Focusing on the exhibition Engaged Observers: Documentary Photography since the Sixties, teachers will learn about photographers who have documented historical events such as war, the Civil Rights movement, and the Depression; as well as social issues, including homelessness and human migration.
Participants are eligible for Los Angeles Unified School District salary points.
The program will run TuesdayThursday, June 29July 1 from 9:30 a.m3:00 p.m., and Friday, July 2 from 9:30 a.m.12:00 p.m. More details and registration information will be available in June, 2010.

It's not too late to apply for Art & Language Arts, a free one-year program that introduces K5 teachers to strategies for developing students' skills in language and visual arts. The deadline for applying has been extended to May 10, 2010.
Art & Language Arts includes a week-long summer seminar, three workshops, class observations, and more. Participants receive subsidized buses for Getty visits, and credit towards salary points or continuing education units. Teachers must apply in teams of six to 10 from each school.

Gallery Closure
The Sculpture and Decorative Arts galleries on the Plaza Level of the West Pavilion (W101, W102, and W103) are closed for reinstallation and will reopen in fall, 2010. These galleries include our 18th- and 19th-century displays of decorative arts, terracotta, and marble sculpture.
