This annual three-and-a-half day program introduces secondary-level teachers of literature, social sciences, and other humanities-based disciplines to art and artists from the Getty Museum's collection. Teachers discuss, compare, and connect art and literature and find ways of bringing what is learned in the institute into their classroom teaching.
While the theme of the Secondary Teachers' Institute varies from year to year, each program consists of lectures, discussions of relevant literature, and smaller-group seminars lead by local scholars, curatorial or education staff. Designed to encourage collaboration and professional exchange, teachers are guided by education staff to develop teacher-authored lessons that may be posted on this site. Teachers that submit lessons are eligible for LAUSD salary points.
