Note: Taken as part of Edward S. Curtis's forty volume work, "The North American Indian," comprised of photos of Native North Americans and First Nations individuals from 1907 to 1930. This photo is from volume 11, dedicated to cataloging Haida and Nuu-chah-nulth communities. The title refers to the two Haida matrilinieal moieties: Raven and Eagle, meaning the individual depicted is a leader in the Raven moiety.
