Note: One of two great houses that are part of the Chaco Canyon complex, located in northwest New Mexico. Built by ancestral Puebloans of the Chacoan culture group in ca. 1020 CE. Pueblo Alto is built upon a mesa in a distinctive D-shape, with a front-facing plaza and kivas and rooms contained along the plaza sides. Connected to other Chaco Canyon sites by roads built at the same time as Pueblo Alto.
