| Note: Japanese scholars had traditionally attributed this painting to the Song Buddhist painter, Zhang Sigong. The "scudding-cloud and running-water" style of the drapery is a pattern the Chinese used to recall the Indian origin of the Buddha image. The subject represents the Buddha Amitabha welcoming souls into his Western Paradise. | |
