Note: Strewn with flowers, vessels filled with fruit and flowers, and large acanthus leaf scrolls, the design of this large carpet centers around a prominent sunflower, the symbol of the Sun King Louis XIV. Images of Chinese blue-and-white porcelain bowls decorate the border; imported in large quantities to France through European trading companies, Asian porcelain was avidly collected by the French king and his court.
