| Note: A legendary Christian warrior, Saint George is particularly remembered for slaying a dragon to save a princess. Dosso depicts him with his trophy and the lance broken in the fierce fight. The victorious saint emerges from the darkness as a rainbow appears above. As he steps into the light, George arrests our attention with his intense outward gaze. The emotion in his eyes as well as his open-mouthed expression suggest deeply felt relief from the strain of his battle against the force of evil. | |
