Gold Beads in the Shape of Cowrie Shells (beads (pierced objects); Unknown Greek (Greek Artist); 220 - 100 BCE; J. Paul Getty Museum at the Getty Villa (Malibu, Los Angeles...; 92.AM.8.11)
Note: Twelve gold hollow cowrie-shaped beads. They are connected by strip twisted double strands of gold wire. The concave fronts of the oval shaped beads have incised decoration, which consists of a centre line with small lines radiating from it. There are seam lines at the sides of the beads. The backs of the beads are open in the centre and the connecting gold wires can be seen. There are no clasps at either of the ends, so the strand may have been longer.
