Mummy with Cartonnage and Portrait (mummy (body); Unknown Romano-Egyptian (Romano-Egyptian Artist); 50 - 100; J. Paul Getty Museum (Los Angeles, Los Angeles county, Calif...; 91.AP.6)

Note: The complete mummy includes the cartonnage and a panel portrait of a young man. The portrait depicts a young man wearing a gold wreath. He has a light mustache and loose curly hair. Gilt is used for background of portrait and the square pattern framing it. The body of the cartonnage is decorated with stylized Egyptian motifs. They include a pair of the eyes of Horus, two images of Horus in profile, Isis, a pair of basins on pedestals(?), an ibis, Osiris flanked by cobras, and a Horus standing frontally but with head in profile to right. The feet are depicted at the bottom of the wrappings; the toes are gilt. Creation Location: El Hibeh (perhaps).
