| Grave Stele of Herophanta and Posideos (relief (sculpture ); Unknown East Greek (East Greek Artist); about 150 BCE; J. Paul Getty Museum at the Getty Villa (Malibu, Los Angeles...; 71.AA.288) | |
| Note: Tall, slightly tapering stele with a pedimental top complete with akroteria. A deeply recessed panel contains four figures. At the right of the scene a woman, Herophanta, stands frontally with her right arm around a large, vertical torch. To her right stands her husband, Posideos. To his right is a small barefoot boy wearing a belted short tunic. Between Posideos and the torch is a small female figure who holds onto the torch with both hands and looks up toward Herophanta. The large torch indicates that Herophanta was a priestess of Demeter. | |
