Note: In this painting, we observe Chen as a painter, expressive and unrestrained. After middle-aged, Chen underwent some changes in thinking. He cared less about fame and wealth, and started to hike in the mountains and forest. This scroll was created in the Wu Xu year in the Chinese calendar (1538), when Chen was 56 years old.

Chinese ..... 此幅以水墨寫意，將牡丹、蘭、竹、槴子、荷花、水仙、山茶等花卉，以折枝的形態穿插安置，用筆清新活潑，構圖錯落有致。花卉點葉濃淡相間，鈎勒葉脈的線條使轉自由率性，全圖傳達出一種清新高潔秀逸的情調，此皆畫家個人風格的呈現。陳淳自中年以後，思想發生了轉變，淡泊名利，寄情山林，晚年藝術臻於純熟自如的境地。此卷作戊戌（一五三八）年，為陳淳五十六歲時的作品。
